We planned a perfect getaway to wine country this past weekend. It was very much needed. A time to unwind, relax, and just be us.
It was magical to stay at the Auberge du Soleil. A gorgeous property and beautiful hotel I have long admired. The service was excellent, the rooms were spacious, airy and bright, and there were so many areas to explore around the property, like a walking trail and sculpture garden. On our first night, we enjoyed the hotel’s outstanding restaurant and sparkling views overlooking the valley. The food was superb and a great way to toast to our weekend.
On Friday, we made sure to spend the entire day at the hotel, to fully enjoy it. I could have spent all weekend at the pool, but we had a spa appointment for the ultimate couples massage and soak. The views from the three outside plunge pools and our private hot tub were unreal, and our experience was heavenly!
That evening we had dinner reservations at Press. This was on a recommendation from my friend, who is a Napa expert. Press did not disappoint. Other than realizing we ordered way too much food, I do not regret having the opportunity to try so many of their delicious dishes.
Wine tasting Saturday. Although the day was gloomy, the views, the wine and the company were all perfect. We had two tastings planned.
First, Frank Family Vineyards has long been a favorite wine of our ours, so we had to visit for a tasting, especially with hearing such great things about the property from our friends. The colors of the red barn and the yellow craftsman house were pleasantly unexpected, not to mention the beautiful colors of the flowers blooming all around. I really enjoyed their brut Rosé!
Heitz Cellar was next on our tasting trail, and we truly fell in love. The property reminded me of Napa meets the Hamptons, and the presentation was so detailed and lovely. We became members and I cannot wait for our deliveries. Their cabs are now at the top of my list. Highly recommend.
Next, we met our good friends for a late lunch and early dinner at The Charter Oak. A great spot to hang with a group and the food was gourmet yet casual. I’d love to go back for dinner too. Afterwards, we walked across the road to Gotts Roadside for soft serve and shakes. The perfect ending to our day. (We had late dinner reservations for Bottega in Napa, but we were too full and tired to make it.)
On Sunday we soaked in the blue skies and brisk air, enjoyed our final breakfast, and then made our way to the airport. It was such a treat to escape the everyday routine. We all need that time away!
