Happy Birthday! Arthur turned five on February 6 and I still cannot believe it!
I love thinking back to when he was born, the haze of becoming new parents, his teeny tiny clothes, and all the firsts at that early stage. So much has changed, Arthur is growing up too fast, yet he remains our constant source of light, happiness and our everything.
From pre-school to pre-K, and now entering the planning stages of Kindergarten, I’m amazed at Arthur’s inquisitive mind, energized spirit and his thoughtfulness, especially after these trying times over the past couple of years. Our way of life has had to shift, but Arthur has been resilient and adaptable, and as parents, we’ve tried to navigate everything COVID related in an honest and kid-friendly manner. In a way, its like he had to grow up a bit quickly, but we’ve been so fortunate to have remained healthy and safe, and for that I am most grateful.
I’m proud of who Arthur is becoming … and cannot wait to see whats in store for all of us!
To celebrate this special milestone, we hosted a birthday party for Arthur and his schoolmates. We went back and forth with renting out a small venue to having something at our house, and then it clicked, whenever we go to the park, Arthur always asks if his school friends are going to be there …. so, we had planned our first park party. Plus being outside sans masks, sounded lovely!
It was a beautiful sunny day. Perfect for hours of running around, cupcakes, goodie bags, Chik Filet, and an opportunity for me to throw in some of my favorite decor. Flowers, baskets, muted shades of green, and of course, gingham. For however long I can control the party ‘theme’, I will! I tend to forgo the TV and movie characters, and instead I like to keep things more classic and effortless.
I’m always so impressed by and even grab inspiration from over-the-top and themed out kid’s parties, but to me there is something sweet and charming about a more effortless look and feel to the party set up. Not to say that my initial planning thoughts aren’t grand, but when I break it down and factor in the time and energy, I more often than not put myself first. Regardless, I love planning and making any type of occasion … special.
Here are a few of the items I used for the party that I either bought or found around out house. I love the idea that I can continue to make use of everything post party.
