A quick round up of what I’m reading, planning to do, watching and wearing. A snapshot of what I’m enjoying.
Read
Tom Lake by Ann Patchett was beautiful. A story of raising a family, independence, young love, and how life can come full circle. I truly enjoyed this quick read, and if you listen to the audiobook, like I did, best part, it’s narrated by Meryl Streep!
Next, if you are not subscribing to In Kind on Monday newsletter you need to. Their twice yearly printed limited edition magazines, have now expanded to an online space. You’ll find thoughtful, honest and real life conversations and insights into motherhood, careers, and inspiration on living a beautiful life. A recent post, An Argument For Mothering With Your Whole Self, could not have said it better. It’s ok for your child to see your whole self. As a home parent, it’s taken time to carve out the space to go to the gym, sit and create content, invest in next steps during this career pause, and getting in “husband and wife” time, like date nights. We want our “non-parenting” worlds to be seen, so our children understand we are more than just “Mom and Dad”.
Do
We need a veggie and herb garden (a tulip garden would be nice too!). A great Summer project for my son and husband. There is just enough space behind our garage to create a dreamy little garden. By dreamy I mean @hillhousevintage dreamy, who makes gardening look playful, stylish and effortless. I also love the airy garden charm of @itsmargoroth, who has a whimsical touch that makes you want to move to the country and have a farm. While father and son plan out the veggies and plants, I’ll be sourcing garden supplies on Brooke and Lou. Their new gardening products will get anyone outdoors.
Watch
Palm Royale takes the cake at the moment! It makes me want to buy a Pucci head scarf, drink a grasshopper (iykyk), and join a club. Also, what a perfect theme for a gala or party. I was quite surprised with how much I enjoyed Kristen Wig in this role. A great line up of actors, who play some interesting characters. I of course loved the home interiors and all the shift dresses, embellished gowns, and accessories. I did a little digging into all things Palm Royale and found this great article from Haper’s Bazar with the show’s costume designer, who gathered much of her inspiration from real life 1960’s glamorous socialites and their over the top soirées.
Wear
A shirt dress, a closet staple. I’ve been a longtime Damsel in Dior follower and was super thrilled when creator, Jacey Duprie, started her own clothing line, Wyeth. When I visited the Wyeth pop-up in Pasadena recently, this dress immediately caught my eye. A roomy yet tailored dress, perfect for the days you want to feel comfortable, but presentable. Dress it up with wedge espadrilles and gold accessories or a heeled sandal and a belt and you’ve elevated your entire look. Here are similar styles that caught my eye.
